Moms Bday

On a lighter note my mom turned the big 40 last saturday. It was a pretty good day for her i think other than the fact that shes officially old now. Late friday night my dad had one of our friends, Eric Spencer, hang big posters with Happy Birthday on them and pictures of my mom.
Then sometime in the mid-morning on saturday someone dropped off a coffin and stuck a shovel in the front lawn. we couldnt figure out who did it, until we found the bishops name on the shovel. Lastly, when my parents were out grocery shopping a family in our ward roped off our yard with caution tape and stuck signs in our yard with funny messages about getting old on them. It seemed like every time we went outside someone had been at our house.

Post Injury Report

I recently got off my crutches and am almost back to normal. I can walk but i cant run, jump or stand on my toes yet. So i guess i still have a while to go. I also have gotten X-Rays of the Hardware in my leg. Everything that is bright white is a screw or a plate. I have 8 screws and a plate for support. I will keep everyone posted as i progress and get better.

A lot of people have asked if we took any pictures of Chandler's fingers. We didn't get any of the wounds but these are of the stitches a few days after the accident.

He got his stitches out on Monday, April 16th. They had told us that if kept them really moist with antibiotic ointment and wrapped up, his scaring would be greatly minimized. It's a good trick to know because they look really good, and so far he doesn't have a single upraised gnarly scar like both the ER doc and our family doc said he would. He thought it was pretty cool the next day when he showered because it was the first time those fingers had had a bath and one whole layer of skin came off and had stitch marks all around it. It was only being held on by the stitches and as soon as it got a little washing it came right off. Here is a picture of his fingers now. They are looking really good. Now, he is having to work with them to get them to work right but already he has a lot more movement in them and he has feeling in both of them.

OUR CONTINUED SAGA.........

The next day, Tuesday, April 17 at about 4:30 in the afternoon, I was making to dinner and talking to Jon on the phone when Trenton came in and told Chris was hurt real bad on the tramp and that he needed me bad. I went out to the tramp and found him lying on his stomach on it and his leg was legging on the tramp, visibly not in a normal position. As I was walking out to the tramp he said he thought he broke it because he heard two loud pops and it hurts really bad and he can't move it. By the looks of it I knew it was true.

Chandler was in his room doing homework and had beat me to the tramp when he heard what Trent had said. He was already running back to get me when I came out. As soon as I said that I thought he had broke his leg, Chandler just turned into a pile of goo. He had his hands covering his mouth and he was bawling to beat the band. I couldn't believe it after all he'd just been through himself. I had to holler at him to get a hold of himself and go get me our doctors magnet off the side of the frig, which he was able to do after two trys. I had the phone with me and had already called Jon back and when I called our doctor to see if I could just go there instead of the ER, Jon was already on the phone with him.

I drove the little truck (all I had because the van was in the shop) through the yard and right next to the tramp. He and I slid him to the edge of the tramp and he stood on his good leg while I carried his bad leg and were able to slide him into the truck. He had to slide across the seat so far to rest his leg on the edge, that I barely fit in.

Our doctor is a friend of ours and he waited for us at his office. Our friends Susan and Eric came over because Eric was going to help me lift him into the truck. I left and they got Trent ready for his T-Ball game (which was thankfully cancelled).

Jon met us at at the doctors office and after the X-rays he and Aaron (our doctor) gave Chris a blessing. Looking at the X-rays he knew we could have to take him to an orthopaedist so he cotton wrapped it, fashioned a splint out of casting material, and wrapped it up and sent us home. He called an orthopaedist he liked and he gave us a number to call if it got real bad through the night, otherwise we were to go see him in the morning. We were lucky because Chris had the next day off of school. He wasn't so lucky though because he had a lot of plans, none of which included the amount of pain or doctors visits that he had.

He had a really, really bad night. He could not get comfortable and we just could not get a handle on the pain. Finally, sometime after 1:00 Am he was finally able to sleep a little bit and by 6:00 he was sleeping pretty good and the pain had finally gotten manageable. Then at about 9:oo he got up to go to the bathroom and get ready to go to the orthopaedist and it started all over again. He ended up not getting in until 12:00 and all morning the pain was awful again. He got a dose of pain meds at 11:30 and between that and putting his leg down on the way to the appointment he felt a lot better, saying even that the pain was completely gone. After the doc saw the X-rays, we had to go to the hospital for a CT scan. Chris did fine all day, and even asked the doctor if he could go to mutual. The doctor said he could do mutual and school and anything else he was able to stand but that he should be able to put his leg up in whatever he did.

So he went to Mutual and did fine. He was planning to go to school today until one of his came over with a card and visited him. As she left, he walked her to the door and coming back into the family room, his crutch slipped and he automatically put that foot down and the pain started all over again. He cryed and cryed and again, couldn't get comfortable. The excruciating pain lasted until about 1:00 again, and then he was only able to drift in and out of sleep again until about 4:30. He had to sleep sitting up and was pretty sore everywhere this morning. After his early morning pain meds he seems to be back on top of the bad pain, but is still really struggling to find a comfortable position. He's really just so tired, he wants to sleep and he just can't do it.

In the end, here is the story. He broke his fibula (the big bone) and his tibia (the smaller bone) in his right leg. The fibula is fractured just above the ankle and the tibia is fractured, displaced a centimeter and broken through the growth plate and joint in his ankle. He has to have surgery on it, which will be Monday the 23rd at 11:30 am. I hope he gets to where he is managing the pain better or Monday might seem like eons away. I'm quite anxious about the growth plate and what that means. He's been growing like crazy lately and I hope they can take care of it enough to not have any long term problems.

Here are some pictures of him in our family doctors office. The leg never looked bad at all before he wrapped it. It had one little bump or swell on the outside just above the ankle and that was all you could see. It has not been unwrapped since so we don't know what it looks like. If you know what you're looking at you can see the displaced tibia on the X-Ray.

Chandler's Accident

This blog is exactly backward in the order it should be layed out, I'm still learning, so be patient with me. Kristy
This is a picture of Shonnie carving Chandler's initials on the dock just below the blood stain and a picture of the dock the next day with the evidence of the day before.

This is Chandler at the scene of the accident after the carving, showing his hand all bandaged up.

These are the pictures of him all set up in the hospital waiting for the doctor to come in.

This is him with the doctor and his GQ pose after. He really wants to hear from Rylee, so we'll be waiting.

This is the real news of our camping trip. Chandler couldn't wait any longer to go out on the boat and so he went for a ride with the ladies as his dad was out getting worms for them to go fishing. When we came back into the dock he and Abby stuck their hand out the side of the boat thinking the would grab the dock and pull us in! It didn't work very well. As you can imagine, he smashed his finger between the boat and the corner of the dock, and almost shredded two of his fingers. It was really, really scary for a while and in the end we feel super blessed. I have the whole story in a word document and if you want all the gory details let me know and I'll email you a copy. But here are a few pictures!

Our 2007 Spring Break Camping Trip

Hi everyone, we had a great camping trip this weekend. The weather turned out to be awesome, the worst weather was the drive up. The wind was horrible and it made for some pretty stressful driving. But we made it, and by the time we had dinner things were a bit calmer. The next morning Chandler was up at 3:00 AM getting dressed to go outside when we made him go back to bed. Finally, we let him get up at 7:00. It was cloudy in the morning but right after breakfast the clouds burned off and it was a beautiful day. Trenton climbed the mountain early with the rest of the kids until they told him about the wolves and other creatures hiding behind the sagebrush. He never went on the mountain again. Chris, Corbin & Derek pal-ed around all day doing various things triing not to be bored waiting for their chance to go out on the boat. On Friday, it was warm, and they were bored so they thought they would go swimming, not so bright, but fun to watch. The water was about 40 degrees and the dogs were doing fine so how bad could it be. Kristy didn't do much of anything but sit and visit with all the other ladies, she was going to go running with them once until she got stuck on a leisurely stroll throwing rocks into the lake with Trenton and Sarah. Fishing was great but very sparatic. The older boys waited all day on Thursday to go out, and then they had awful luck and didn't catch anything. So they got a promise to get to go first thing on Friday, which they did and caught about 50 fish. They were in heaven. The smaller kids got to go later that day and they had similar success, although with all those kids and dad's helping it was a bit of mayhem. Jon had a perfect time, it was all about the boat. Everyone liked, everyone wanted to go, and he fished every day. What could be better?

We're back again trying to figure out how to post a picture and we just found it.
We just picked a few random pictures just to try out the feature. This is a picture of the first few moments inside Disneyland. Trenton couldn't wait as well as the other kids until we entered the gate and this giant character was standing there. He was freaked out and immediately changed his mind. He didn't want to be there and he certainly was getting no signatures from any of them. They really did scare him and he was not happy to be standing that close. He only did it finally because as you can see Chris and Chandler buffered him from Baloo and he was as far to the outside of the picture as we allowed. He got a little better as time went on, but not with the tall ones or the scary ones. When we got home we found out he was practically blind and needed glasses. In hind sight it all makes sense. He loves all the make believe characters and now we want to go back to see if he would enjoy it a little more. Kristy
OK This is a picture our family playing a game that is a big part of Stimpson family tradition. It is called Mafia. Im glad we have this picture because, anymore it is a rare occurance that we play Mafia. You may ask; "why dont you play Mafia that often if it is a tradition?" The answer is as simple as this, we dont have enough kids at the reunion to play it by ourselves and the adults are usually "too tired" or "not in the mood" to play. I just think theyre grouchy because they lose all the time! I hope this was a somewhat rude awakening for you adults who dont want to play Mafia, and you know who you are. so pretty much what im saying is that WE NEED TO PLAY MAFIA MORE OFTEN! Well its really late and I g2g to bed soon. cya later!
Chris
Check back soon, maybe you'll find some pictures of Trent in his glasses, or if your lucky, him in his Nacho Libre outfit. You may find Chandler on the ball field or racing in his Pinewood Derby. If your really lucky you might see Chris on his first day of work, and if he's really lucky him getting a hole in one.
Talk to you soon! Kristy

Here we go!

The Hanson's are coming into the 21st Century. It's time for Mom and Dad to learn some new computer and internet skills. Chris wants me to tell everyone that the boys have been in the 21st century for quite some time now. Tanya (that's my sister) has challenged all of us to do this and asked that we post something for her. I don't know how to do that but here's our blog. Chris is now telling me that making this blog is what she was asking. I guess my learning curve is going to be really steep. lol (Chris typed lol, which he just recently informed us it means laugh out loud instead of the lots of love which is what both his mom and dad thought he was telling all of his friends.)
Anyway, this is our blog and although I have not been good about things like this in the past, I'm going to try to be much better at it from now on. Check back often for some pictures and updates on the fam. We love you all, and hope this helps us to stay in better contact through this crazy busy time of ours. ttyl (Talk to ya lata)
